Daily Life in camp

Confederate soldiers were rarely afforded the pleasure of genuine tents, unless they stole them from Union troops! Two troops would sleep on a tarred or rubber blanket and be covered by two blankets. In the winter, sleeping together kept them warm!

health

By the end of the war, Confederate soldiers had acquired better hygiene practices and had built stronger immune systems, but they did not have the same resources as Union soldiers.

Food and water

In the South, the Confederacy attempted to maintain the same rations as their adversary. However, they lacked the funds and resources to do so for the rest of the conflict. Soldiers received a comparable amount of hardtack, but with limited meat and coffee and no vegetables. Confederate soldiers were eating weeds to augment their diets by the conclusion of the war.
